What is a Pardon...?

During 1830 in The United States, there was an unusual court case in which a railway clerk, George Wilson, was sentenced to be hanged for the murder of his partner and theft of money contained in the US Mail consignment. While on death row Wilson was offered a pardon by the then President Andrew Jackson following a public appeal for mercy. But strangely Wilson obstinately refused to accept the pardon. The matter went before U.S. Supreme Court Chief Justice John Marshall. He ruled...

"A pardon is a slip of paper, the value of which is determined by the acceptance of the person to be pardoned. If it is refused, it is no pardon. George Wilson must be hanged."

We have all been offered a pardon !

Romans 6:23
For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord

John 3:18-20
Whoever believes in him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe stands condemned already because he has not believed in the name of God's one and only Son. 19This is the verdict: Light has come into the world, but men loved darkness instead of light because their deeds were evil. 20Everyone who does evil hates the light, and will not come into the light for fear that his deeds will be exposed.

John 3:36
Whoever believes in the Son has eternal life, but whoever rejects the Son will not see life, for God’s wrath remains on him.

The key words here are “already” and “remains”.

10 out of 10 people die and it’s because of sin. Our death is proof of our guilt before God.

Will you turn down your pardon ?

May God have mercy on you and bring you to repentance so that you might yet receive the gift he is offering you.

Remember always that the devil is the enemy of your soul

All the best for Judgment Day

Good bye
